Great cascades!

Day 4

Today we had a "waterfall day" .... to those of you who live in areas where they occur it may not seem very interesting. However coming from the 'Fens' where the world is very flat, it's something of a novelty for us!

First we visited Aysgarth Falls ....... first walking up to the Upper Falls ...... then climbed down to the Middle Falls ...... then through the wood to the Lower Falls (these are the three pictured across the bottom - left to right).

We then decided to visit Mill Gill ..... as we had been told it was a lovely waterfall! After scrambling our way along a very precarious narrow muddy path with a huge drop one side & drystone wall the other for about a mile we reached the waterfall ....... what a disappointment ...... this is the photo top right! We then had to scramble all the way back!!!! We did see a couple of Starling chicks poking their heads out of their nest in a gap in the drystone wall ..... they were rather sweet & also heard a Cuckoo ...... but it was still rather disappointing!

As we were near West Burton we then visited the waterfall there ....... this is the main photo. As you can see it was beautiful there & without a tortuous scramble!!!! All in all though it was a good day :-)

During the evening we heard the loud noise of a prop plane ....... we went out to look ....... it flew over our heads no more than 200 feet above us! Shame it hadn't been in the daylight as it would have been close enough to get a very detailed shot!

Thanks so much for dropping by :-)
