What else to do when you have ripe tomatoes, mozzarella, and a basil plant in the tub outside the door? This is always a winner.

After a hot, sunny day, it clouded over at about six, but we stuck to our plan and headed down to the garden for a barbecue anyway. S has done a good job of tidying up the chaos, and it looks quite civilised now.

In other news, I finished The Luminaries, and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. I enjoyed it, but Hilary Mantel is in no danger of losing her crown of Best Historical Novelist Ever.
