Bannockburn in the sun

The new Battle of Bannockburn visitor centre opened a few months ago in advance of the 700th anniversary of the battle on 23/24 June this year. I had read and heard good reports about it, especially the interactive 'battle game' where visitors play the part of battle commanders and re-enact the battle on a computerised landscape, often with very different results from that achieved in 1314.

I was not disappointed. From the 3D gallery which places one right in the centre of the battle to that live battle experience, it was a most enjoyable visit. I found myself in charge of a virtual cohort of English cavalry and an infantry unit and it's fair to say that our re-enactment did not go well for the Scots!

The familiar statue of The Bruce is still in place as is the rotunda where he is supposed to have raised his standard 700 years ago this weekend. Given that the Battle of Bannockburn centre is only a 25-minute bus journey from where I live, I don't think it will be too long before I return.
