Perfect form and function

How exquisitely the wasp has evolved to extract nectar from this buttercup and evade the attention of watchful predators. Almost every pest insect species has at least one wasp species that preys upon it or parasitises it. This makes the wasp a natural biocontrol. Often it is thought of as a pest itself - especially at picnics! However they have a place in the greater scheme of things - as have buttercups!
