Bringing the cows home

After a lazy morning we had a blipmeet with Northern for lunch at the fossil museum cafe on Burray . It was very tasty especially the gingerbread. We enjoyed a good natter. It was lovely to find out about island life first hand. It was also good to meet Northerns son who is working in the café and doing a good job at keeping on top of the washing up :)

We also saw an endangered species a Great yellow bumblebee. It was once found throughout the uk but is now only found in the North Coast of Scotland and some of the Islands.

As we were driving down to the cemetery and beach we were stopped by an Orkney rush hour as the cows were being brought in for milking. Lots of them being pushed along by the farmer on his quad bike and a collie dog. I bet they felt much better after being milked.

We watched the seals from the cemetery. The footpaths were overgrown with cow parsley, everyrthing seems to have grown so well this year.

Afterwards we had a lovely walk on one of the beaches near the churchill barrier . The waves were really rolling in even on a calm day so they must get really rough when it's windy.

The sun is now peeping through after a cloudy but dry and warm day.
