Visit to Bellingham

I took Mum up to Bellingham today, so that she could see the Local Faces in Local Places exhibition. We had a good look around the Museum, which is packed with local history and very well presented for all ages. Mum enjoyed it all.

We had lunch in "Carriages", a tearoom inside an old railway carriage. It's a great place to go because you sit on lovely seats at the tables; the food is all homemade, delicious and reasonably priced.

Heard over lunch:

To four year old "Sit up straight" "The driver will come and he will be cross if you are not sitting up nicely"

(Sigh - why was there nothing to help keep the delightful child interested during the long wait for food?)

Three elderly adults talking:

"Have you been watching the tennis?"
"No, only on the news"
"I like that young commentator, he's really good and what a nice young man"
(This of John McEnroe who is an excellent commentator, but in his youth was described in many another way than "nice"!)

"We haven't seen much of Andy Stewart's brother."

Brits of a certain age will appreciate this as they immediately remember Hogmanay on the BBC.

"...............I think you mean Andy Murray........."

I took this photo later - not the same people - and I've inserted the advert for our exhibition where there was a large white paper which spoilt the picture. Just in case you think it's blatant advertising.

May be best seen larger.
