Tetrao urogallus

Another visit to the Highland Wildlife Park today as we didn't quite manage to see everything on our visit at Easter. One of the creatures we saw that we didn't see last time was this Capercaillie. I have only ever seen them depicted like this and have always thought they looked rather weird and scary. This fellow was not weird or scary though. He was just an enormous grouse and was very cool. He hopped up onto a branch and peered at us through the netting. Isn't he lovely? I have become a big fan of them now and already have designs on coming back next spring for Caperwatch at Loch Garten.
