Shepherd's delight lore not true

According to weather lore after last night's spectacular sunset today should have been really good. It wasn't. Overcast, grey, windy and cold, 13c, Susan wearing her winter jacket in July.

We've not used the hosepipe on the allotment at all this year, trying to avoid surface watering. But it really is getting dry now so we had to resort to the hosepipe today.

Note the one sided bean poles. That's because the side facing me was hard up against the broad beans, so blocking out the light. Now the beans have been removed perhaps this side will catch up. Picked the remainder of the black currants today as well as some nice big red dessert gooseberries. Sowed autumn carrots while Susan watered and weeded.

Mind you, we did wonder whether we should be bothering as there was rain in the forecast. Promised rain sometimes doesn't arrive, so we went ahead anyway.

It did rain a little, apparently, while I was having a relaxing late afternoon nap. But it remained dull and overcast for our evening walk. I had hopes of a good sunset as the clouds in the west parted just before sundown, but nothing really happened. That would have been too much to expect.
