Still stormy

Another run on the North Shore. This time to Milford Beach. Like yesterday, I expected to become a drowned rat on the basis of the rain I drove through on my way to the hospital. However, although the wind persisted the rain clouds moved a little away; enough so that some of the colour from the about to rise sun could actually be seen from almost on the beach.

Almost means about 2 m back from the edge so as not to be hit by the waves being blown hard against the sea wall. Behind where I was standing, sand had been flung about 20 m up the road by the winds; deep enough to be soft.

In the scheme of things, these waves are small. But this is the inner Hauraki Gulf, with Rangitoto Island (seen here as a slightly looming presence over the waves) preventing the big waves getting anywhere near Milford Beach. Often, there is nothing more than a gentle ripple on the water.

Today was another good day in this locum. A few days agoI had discussions with the managers, who have asked me to continue beyond the planned end date of mid August until the end of October, as the new consultant will not be in Auckland before then.

I have been thinking this way for a while, and in accepting the offer, I have resolved to stop working in the private practice other than providing medico-legal opinions, and when appropriate diagnostic consultations. The events of the last couple of weeks encouraged some thinking.
