The Remarkables

We woke to a wisp of low cloud just hovering above the lake, it was magical and mysterious as it floated in the air. The Remarkables were beautifully silhouetted against the rising sun, quite a bit later than I expected being so far inland.

Our day consisted of brunching by Lake Wakatipu with the sun shining watching people sky diving and para gliding, Queenstown is NZ's adventure playground, there is so much to do here. Having done some of the adventurous things before we decided to drive out to Glenorchy, a small settlement at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu. The drive was beautiful with the lake beside us with breath-taking views.

Glenorchy is a popular tourist spot, although quiet while we were there being late autumn. It lies near the border of Mount Aspiring National Park and Fiordland National Park and the popular Routeburn Track can be accessed from here. The local scenery was used as one of the settings in the first of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films.

Today's blip is from our balcony with the sun setting over The Remarkables. We are staying in the most amazing accommodation, a lovely Christmas gift from our daughters - this is the view from the balcony, we are truly spoilt!

Not much snow left after a warm autumn day. Tomorrow we move on to our next destination, a well known one by you all :)
