Life's Little Moments

Another Hummingbird...

But this time one of the Clearwing Moth variety. Yes, my other favorite summer hummingbird, Hemaris thysbe, one of the few diurnal moths in our area. They love the pink bee balm in my garden and seem to show up exactly when it starts blooming. They are lovely things, and really do resemble the avian hummers in the way they gather nectar from the flowers. They are only fractionally smaller than the avian hummers, too!

I overslept this morning, thus missing my walking group. However, I took good use of the time at home to pack up some things in the basement. After a trip to Home Depot to buy more boxes and suet. That latter having nothing to do with the former...

The catbirds definitely have a nest in the big shrub just outside my home-office window. The very same shrub that really needs to be trimmed, but is going to have to wait now. The catbirds are busy in the garden and all around the yard and patio gathering insects, grubs, and other tasty delights and furtively zipping into the shrub with them.

I posted a picture of a catbird with a meal, and 7 other pictures, starting HERE, on Flickr if you'd care to have a look. A few more hummingbirds, too, both avian and the Lepidoptera variety!

It's very humid today with scattered thunderstorms, so good day to stay close to home. Hubs called me while he was out for lunch, so we had a nice chat - usually he's too busy during the day to even eat, much last talk on the phone, so that was a nice break for both of us.

Thanks for sending yesterday's hummingbird (the avian one) to the Spotlight page - and for all the lovely comments, stars, hearts, etc. I do appreciate you all very much.

It's Monday, and four more sleeps until Hubs is back...
