Early Surfies

Characters from Surf Tour V - Will, Kate, Jasper, Ellie, Emily and Katie. Along with me, the keeno squad, heading down much earlier than anyone else to surf. Shout outs to Will and Jasper for being sick surfers, much respect, to Kate for undertaking her new job as social sec excellently, to Ellie and Katie for being really cool people to have met this tour (not to mention great additions to the surf crew) and to Emily for organizing the sickest trip to finish uni on!

So the conditions were perfect this morning for surf learning. Tide was ultra low and you could walk all the way outback. The waves were steady as well, meaning it was perfect for practicing for several hours. I definitely got a LOT better just today.

When we'd had our fill, Clifton, AHJ and me figured we'd go on a day crawl of town. Colclough joined us on the way, to sample the bar strip. Highlights were the chilled out surf bar at the beginning with the skater barman, the rooftop terrace bar and the last joint, where we played pool and watched the end of whatever game was on. Awesome way to spend the afternoon... before heading off to Lagos by bousse!

Lagos is the big town nearby, beautiful and pleasant portuguese old fortification. It turns into quite a party town at night. It didn't help that we were all sporting our new tour shirts. First was dinner. Actually no, first was beers with Clifton and Colclough on the main piazza, watching a skater dancing around the place. Then was dinner with them and Joe at a nice fish restaurant, hello dourada. We joined up with all the others after, who were circling in four circles near the fort walls (never have I ever pissed on a castle!). Armed with sangria, I joined the infamous circle which soon became DON SIMON! Arhhhh, the pirate's code. We all shared a love for sangria, led by our captain Mikey and first mate Robbie. The pirate thing became something of a ... motif ... for the rest of the night, much to the chagrin of others (sorry not sorry). And the rest of tour!
We then hit town, stopping at a couple bars including an awesome rooftop one serving cocktails. We ended up being too noisy though and we had to move on to downtown bars. The first one had a barman who tried to kill Ed and me with the most intense shots of our lives. Was there a second bar? The third bar didn't particularly mind the idea of girls dancing on bars. And they played sick music, which Whillis and me took full advantage of. Too soon, it was time for the bus to leave. It was a sick night, eventful as expected, shout out to those who managed to keep their dignity.

The sun shone every day here in Sagres, couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather. Except for today, when it drizzled a bit in the morning while I was out on the water, but not too much to make it a downer. It was also windy, I would have loved to go out on the windsurf boards, but there was no chance I was gonna make it past the waves beachstarting. Jasper managed it after a lot of effort, but it’s been too long for me.

Song of the day - Waves
