At the Seaside

We've had a proper seaside day today. The sort of day that childhood memories are made of.
Despite their late night the Little Misses were up at the crack of dawn this morning. We had a very lazy few hours sitting around out little camp eating bacon sandwiches, drinking tea, playing badminton, playing the throw-the-frisby-through-the-hole-in-the-target game, going marsh exploring with Papa and generally enjoying not doing very much.
Then, to avoid low tide crab fishing difficulties, we headed round to the harbour for a bit of crab fishing before lunch.
High tide presented a few difficulties too! But we found a spot, threw in our lines with bags full of smelly bacon and sat back to collect our haul.
Forty five!!!
Our official classification system: Monsters, whoppers, big ones, medium ones, small ones, diddy ones and baby ones.
Once the bucket was full we had crab races and watched them all scuttling back into the water as quickly as they could. I can't help wondering how many times a day they get caught. Next year I might take some nail varnish to mark them!!
There was another Grandad there with his grandson and they caught an eel and a couple of shrimps and very kindly gave the Little Misses a big crabbing net when they left.
He was from London originally like my dad and it was very sweet seeing them chatting and reminiscing on the bench. Papa made a friend!!!
After a couple of hours it was time to get out of the blazing sunshine and back to the campsite for lunch.
And a bit more tea, playing and exploring.
Then it was to the beach. Just across the road!
We had it almost to ourselves apart from a few dog walkers. It's a beautiful beach - backed by sand dunes and with sweeping views up to the lighthouse and the pier.
We dug holes, built giant sandcastles, buried mermaid Miss L, paddled, jumped over waves, made huge butterflies with pebbles in the sand and did long jump - with the longest run up imaginable!
Just brilliant!
We took the filthy, sandy Little Misses back to the campsite, gave them a quick dinner of lamb steak and baked beans (because you really can't have too much protein!) and then left them with Nana and Papa while Mr K and I went into Southwold for dinner.
It was great to have some time to ourselves. We sampled the local beer - Adnams - for forty five minutes before getting a table at The Crown. I am pretty much a non drinker these days so my pint of shandy went straight to my head. What a lightweight!!!
Dinner was scrummy and naturally we ate far too much! The walk back to the campsite gave us a chance to digest it a bit!
What a great day!
