Life in Sunny Dubai

Seriously good day

We have had a seriously good day today! It's been quite unbelievable really.

Starting with an excellent flight in which we actually got several hours of sleep; we arrived in London early, the Captain announcing that the temperature at 5am had been 18degC, so we were warned of how hot it could get. The queues at immigration were so long (yet fast moving) G had actually taken both bags off the belt by the time I got down, so we were able to leave immediately.

Walked towards the bus stops to catch the shuttle to the car hire company and saw a sign to say go to the Parking on Level 4. Budget and Avis now have an office there (woo hoo), and no idea why but the lady at the counter felt very generous and gave us a free upgrade to a Picasso Diesel!! It took us a while few minutes to figure out how to er start the car; then how to get the automatic hand brake off (fortunately the handbook was in the glovebox) but we were soon on our way heading to Junction 10 on the M25! Got to the Lodge in no time at all and it is looking great as ever.

A few things needed to be sorted, so we made a hit list and drove into Guildford to get it all done. We parked right in the city centre and gave ourselves two hours. First stop was Specsavers for me where a small adjustment to my frame meant I didn't have to get new lenses. We then walked over to O2 to get SIM cards sorted, then over to 3 to get the mobile broadband sorted and that didn't take long either; then finally to the Bank to unblock an account so we can get cash from an ATM. That took a while but still left enough time to pop into Sainsbury's and the pound shop to get a few bits for lunch! SO thrilled we got it all done.

Can't quite believe how warm it is. Our friends have lent us a fan which is helping a lot. Unpacked and cases put away in 20 minutes. A great start to this holiday!

My blip is of one of two very talented guitarists playing on the High Street. I love that about this country. In Dubai, you'd never be able to do this. :)
