Pillar-Box

I was in Banbury this morning, first for an appointment, and then to buy a few bits & pieces I needed. I spotted this slightly unusual pillar box and went to investigate. On the wall next to the box was a plaque, bearing the following words:

"This very early type of pillar-box dating from 1856 has been in daily use in Banbury since 1857. The box was renovated with the support of Banbury Borough Council and re-opened for use on this site on November 25th 1974."

I'd never have bothered to look at the pillar-box or read the plaque if I hadn't thought it might make an interesting blip.
