Munich - day 1

This morning we had a leisurely drive from Klosters to Munich, an easy 3 hour journey. We dropped our bags at the hotel and set about exploring the area around us. My first impressions of Munich are that it is very charming, almost Austrian (reminds me of Innsbruck) and that the whole city revolves around beer! It has more character than I expected and has a totally different feel to Berlin, which is the only other German city that I have visited. I don't drink beer so cannot get excited about the thousands of different beers on offer....

This is a little square where you will find the Hofbrauhaus - a total tourist trap if I ever saw one! I wonder how many local people ever visit the Hofbrauhaus. This guy in his lederhosen and feather cap was delighting the tourists with his music.

After his classes finished at 5.30pm Luke came to the hotel and we were so pleased to see him. He has loved his two weeks in Munich and feels he has got to know the city fairly well as it is quite small. Tomorrow he is taking his brothers to swim in the Eisbach in the Englisher Garten - literally translates as the ice stream, and swimming in that cold water is not for the faint hearted. He has coped very well these past two weeks with his laundry, shopping for food, and cooking his own meals - and of course his German has improved significantly - result!
