Wet

Up before 6:00 just after Angie left. Poured a cup of coffee and once the eyes opened peered out the kitchen window to see the ground was now a lake.

Within minutes it seems the rain of the last 12 hours got too much. Looked in the cellar and sure enough a good meter of water. Out with the pumps . That was my day sorted.

By late afternoon it had stopped. Fire brigade siren went off but apparently only the odd house in the village had problems.

Old Blip hands will know we are fully equipped with a large petrol driven pump which is more than up to the task but it's a time consuming, pain in the posterior.

May not have needed the big pump if the emergency pump in a shaft in front of the house had not failed - the hose had become loose and so it was recirculating the water rather than pumping it away. We also need to get the small drain alongside the property cleared out with a small excavator in the autumn. Given it's a few hundred meters long, not a job for a hand shovel! The water in the Blip is from this drain, originating from the forest which slopes down to us.

Dog walk postponed but Angie came home a bit earlier and took them out.
