The pike and the cygnets

On my walk along the canal from New Kilpatrick to Bowling I came upon a catch - a 8/9lb pike. One angler was taking a picture of the fish held by the chap who caught it. Before putting it back in the water he was happy to let me get in on the act!

Later I came across these beautiful cygnets which swam right up to the water's edge where I was crouching with my camera - obviously looking for food. I thought both pictures were linked because pike eat cygnets in one fell swoop when they first take to the water. The parent swans in this stretch have certainly done a good job getting their brood to this stage. It looks in my composite as if the pike, ironically, is having a good look at its prey - the ones that got away!
