Flash floods in Mote Park

All around Mote Park this afternoon was evidence of the impact of this morning's tremendous rain. The River Len overspilled its banks and flooded the path around the Park, just like it had for many weeks during January and February earlier this year.

Along the footpaths you could see washouts where torrents of water had been running over the hard surface carrying stones and gravel until it rushed off the path and over the vegetation flattening it agains the ground. We had to retreat and find an alternative way home.

It was a mighty downpour this morning, we woke to rain but little realised what was to come. Lots of thunder accompanied by the sort of rain which would have put a monsoon to shame.

Quite spolit our plans to work in the garden this morning. It'll have to wait until another day now.
