Edward Burne-Jones windows

It was stormy overnight, but not too bad this morning as I left Arnside. I have to say that the almost deserted streets looked like many another seaside resort in winter.

I called in at Kendal to see the Quaker Tapestry but the museum was closed on Mondays. So on to Brampton where I stopped for coffee and a visit to St Martin's Church. This church was designed by the Pre-Raphelite architect, Philip Webb, and has exquisite stained glass windows by Burne-Jones.

The windows above the altar are full of deep saturated colours. Even with the tripod it proved difficult to capture them well and light patterns kepts changing very quickly. I have kept in one of the side windows because I like the way the light is streaming in there. (May be best seen large.)

I stopped in Haltwhistle for the food shop. We have family coming for lunch tomorrow. Then home - and a lovely afternoon nap in my own bed. Bliss.

Bookings for the autumn festival started today and a lot of people have booked, making a promising start for our venture.
