WATER (2) - AUGUST CHALLENGE

About 7 years ago Mr. HCB retired and as he enjoyed gardening, I knew he would be spending more time in the garden. He put in a couple of water butts as he decided he would rather use rainwater than tap water for two reasons (1) it would be better for his plants and (2) we had just had a water meter installed.

We now have 3 water butts and I spent sometime this morning taking photographs inside the water butt (not literally, you understand!), outside the water butt and with the tap open, running water into the watering can - this one was my favourite for today’s August challenge - WATER.

Here are some facts about water:

Clean, safe drinking water is scarce. Yet, we take it for granted, we waste it, and we even pay too much to drink it from little plastic bottles - in fact, it almost seems to me that it is a “badge of honour” to carry a water bottle around!

Every minute of every day, people suffer and lives are lost needlessly because of a lack of safe, clean water and sanitation.

748 million people still do not have access to safe water and a staggering 2.5 billion people are without a toilet.

My challenge to myself is to give up one coffee per day for at least a week and donate the money I would have spent to Wateraid - does anyone want to join me?

Water is powerful,
it can wash away earth,
put out fire and even
destroy iron.
Water can carve its way
through stone.
And when trapped,
water makes a new path.

Update on Mr. HCB's exploits yesterday - it took 4 hours to complete a journey that normally takes 45 minutes - he stayed for 2 hours, then came home because the cricket match was abandoned without a ball being played. At least he didn't have as far to come home as those poor supporters from Lancashire!
