Rainbow over the Firth

I made Mr PB stop the car between Innellan and Dunoon this afternoon so that I could leap out and photograph this rainbow with its shadow - I'm always so tempted by rainbows, and always so disappointed with the resulting photos. Perhaps it's the ephemeral nature of the phenomenon that makes it so precious - a transience that is lost by fixing it in an image. It seemed to me that when I looked at it through the windscreen I could see echoes of the yellow end of the spectrum appearing below the violet ...

By the time we got home, two things had changed: we could see the entire bow of the rainbow, and it was pouring. So my silent quote to myself had come true:

Ecce autem bibit arcus. Pluet, credo, hercle hodie!
