Taken from the balcony. Later in the day, someone came by to look at the damage to the beams caused by two roof tiles which had slipped out allowing rain to get to the beam. Luckily son-in-law Barry had fixed the tiles recently so no immediate danger of it getting worse.

Probably not too bad and as the rotten wood is "outside" i.e. over the balcony, relatively good to get access to. Will hopefully be able to simply cut back to good wood and replace it. The problem was made worse because the roof tile battens are incorrectly fastened to the roof, a fault we have always been aware of but would mean recovering the entire roof. A job for another day after he have won the jackpot.
