The bridge Appleby-in-Westmorland

We had cause to pop over to Kirkby Stephen to a supplier we use for consumables for the Lodge. As it was such a nice day we decided to have a walk round Appleby. N.B. I have given it its official name in the heading. the "in Westmorland" was tagged on the end after Cumberland and Westmorland joined to make Cumbria back in the 70s (74?).

As we were walking along by the river we arrived at the "Simple Cafe" which had a nice area of decking overlooking the river catching the sun well. CC went and ordered tea and scones. The reply was you will have to wait until they come out of the oven will that be OK? Having said it was she asked if she should pay then. The reply came "No wait until you have tried them, if you like them pay for them". We paid for them they were lovely.

This is the view looking up stream from the decking to the bridge which links one half of the town with the other. The decking also overlooks the part of the river where the horses are taken for washing during the Gypsy Horse Fair week.
