Day 1 - San Diego

So....we made it to LA!

The flight wasn't bad at all, but I don't think either of us have ever watched so much tv!!

We arrived to the hotel about 9pm; ate, then showered & bed. Although we were both tired, we didn't sleep well, but didn't feel too groggy this morning.

Today's blip is a postcard from San Diego.

We had a great breakfast, then on the coach for 7.30am ready for a day in San Diego.
Our tour guide, Harland, is a nice guy but doesn't half go on!! He's very subtle when out & about too (see photo)!

The rest of the group are of mixed ages; we've not had a chance to speak to many people yet.

We've started this trip on the back seat of the coach; we move round every day, 3 seats, counter clockwise, so I'm glad we are at the back today while we aren't going so far.
We should have great views as we head to the Grand Canyon!

The weather was surprising when we left the hotel; very dull and overcast. Harland explained that this is the 'marine layer', caused by the mixture of warm air on the ground and cold air coming down from the mountains. He reassured us that it lifts by 11am to the blue skies & sunshine you associate with California.

Sure enough, by the time we reached San Diego, it was glorious!
We stopped off at Coronado Beach to see the skyline from across the water.

We took the option of doing a harbour cruise (rather than 2 hours in the shopping mall).

This was really informative and we saw the naval base and some Californian sea lions (sunbathing!).

From there, we went to the Old Town; this is where it became clear we made the right choice doing an escorted tour as we would have hated to miss this....it was fantastic!

We saw the birthplace of San Diego as a town; Wells Fargo and had a coffee in an authentic old town store.

Tonight we have another night in LA, so we are heading off into town for food and a couple of beers....well it is Friday night :-)
