Life in Sunny Dubai

Dubai Metro

To mark 5 years of our driver-less transport system...

I REMEMBER 09.09.09 (09.09pm) - not just because it was a special date (sorry Tigg/Freuchie - didn't know you then) but because it was the date chosen by Sheikh Mohammed to launch Dubai's new mass transit system. I remember going out for a meal with my first date buddy - Farzan. That was what we did; instead of ice cream - we dined.

And we got home in time to watch the inauguration on TV. It was hard not to notice how excited Sheikh Mohammed was! Launched with just one line (Red) and 5 major stations which bear the history of the Emirate; it created a huge buzz. Think my Dad, Pauline, G & I went for a ride a few weeks later. We HAD to check it out but waited for the initial fascination rush to subside! :)

Go large to see the trains and station. (The station in the distance is Al Karama - i.e. ours). Also, please don't miss the butterflies on the roundabout.

And today, I went to a VFS centre to apply for a tourist visa for Cyprus, and stopped off briefly at home for lunch. Not a bad day after the last few tough ones.

More info for any train enthusiasts.
