Vegan Chicken

Just a week to go until the big beer tapping ceremony and consumption of half a million chickens washed down by 7 million liters of beer. One may be against beer but, especially with Bavaria's Beer Purity Law, it is pure vegan. For the first time last year, 3 tents at the Oktoberfest offered vegan dishes and could not keep up with demand.

This 10 week old chick is safe: not only is she much too old - they use 6 week old chickens - but she's also a bantam and so with 6 years would not even make the "starters" on the menu.

How one can feed a chick so much that it has enough meat on it's breast within 6 weeks is a mystery to me, as is the shredding of 50 million day old male chicks each year in Germany alone. About time we found a super bird that can lay lots of eggs (if female) or lay on meat (if male).

Ours are allowed to spend their entire lives with us. When they naturally die, their corpses are then not wasted but given to the local wildlife - as happened today.

Normal kind of day but unlike yesterday, no rain. Angie & Corinna out riding. Had got a blip of them with passing Farmer Planck mowing grass with his old Deutz Intrac but thought the wheels were a bit dirty to show on Blip. MrB popped by and saw I was struggling with my Bee project. He offered to do some welding of bits & pieces I had lying around and after a bit of flexing he loaded the parts in the car asking when I needed them. I replied October or November. Typical MrB returned in the afternoon with the welded parts! I think he was bribed by Angie. I had planned on at least a month of doing nothing. Thanks Peter!
