Marjorie's ramblings

By walkingMarj

Oh! I do like to be beside the seaside!

29 Haltwhistle walkers decamped from Northumberland today and travelled to Whitby for a weekend of walking. En route, we stopped near Great Ayton and did a circular walk that included Captain Cook's monument and Roseberry Topping.

We had lunch at the top. There was no wind but the skies were hazy and we could not see far. Two cyclists arrived and then looked for the best way to career madly ride down the hill......... (as you do).

There was time in Whitby for a stroll before dinner. There are now beach huts on the promenade. People are not allowed to take deckchairs onto the beach, so they content themselves with little encampments on the concrete.

Whitby is one of my favourite places to visit. I like this image because it has a slightly surreal quality and I see the waves about to crash over the promenade......

PS Apologies for the "no show" blip last night. We had only intermittent broadband and phone connections yesterday and I wasted a lot of time sorting it out.
