Kickabout

At 10pm on Thursday 11th September a group of young men started playing a five-a-side football match at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld. But this was no ordinary football match: the aim was to play continuously until Sunday morning and beat the world record (currently standing at 53 hours) and raise money for the Boys' Brigade in the process.

Some of the young men were from the 1st Cumbernauld Company, attached to the church I attend, and it was they who had come up with the idea and, after months of detailed planning, put the initial idea into action. I popped down to Broadwood for a short while on Friday afternoon - 15 hours played and another 40 or so to go - and the guys were still in good spirits. People were keeping score - the whole thing has to be meticulously recorded for the people at Guinness World Records - and at that time the red team were beating the blues by something like 315 goals to 306. Full credit to these guys! Mad or what?
