A Day Worth Recording

The Crappist of Days

backblip.

Today was not a good day.

With extensive care and planning we'd made lots of arrangements to transport Simon's tropical fish from Cambridge where they'd been in the care of friends, to Malvern last night.  Last night all was fine, and I made the choice between leaving them as they were in the transport container or transferring them to the tank.  Given their likely stress levels I left things as they were.

That choice proved utterly catastrophic as all but two were dead this morning.  I have never felt so sick.

The slipped and broken slates came off the holiday cottage roof today to reveal far more problems than even our surveyor had predicted.  Several key roof timbers were completely rotten and it was now a surprise the roof was still up.

To top it all, the former owner (having agreed we could have the domain) emailed to object violently to my having routed the domain emails so as to copy the pre-existing Dell House enquiries address to ourselves.  Reworking that misunderstanding was far from trivial given our lack of internet connection here, however, that lack did lead to the saving grace of the day.

By chance, I met with neighbours Cassie & David and they could not have been more warm and welcoming people, immediately sharing their home and internet connection so I could change the email routing, and sending me home with freshly baked cookies.  Thank you so much.
