Against the wall

The disadvantage of going to a panel discussion with Stuart Franklin, Lefteris Pitarakis and Shahidul Alam (Does photojournalism still have a role as our eyewitness to history?*) was coming home and looking at my own photos of the day. Oh dear. Almost all deleted. The advantage, of course, was getting to see some of their astonishing images large.

The discussion was a bit fragmented but to my surprise all of them agreed on the importance of words with images and wanted to write at least their own captions, if not the whole text. All rejected the tired idea that photographers can’t write.

*The answer, obviously, is yes.
