White baiting on wheels

After carpet ordering and picking up my now repaired dressing table, the fisher-hunter and I headed out to the Waimak (Waimakariri River) for a spot of after work fishing.

At the mouth it was a bit cold and bleak with an onshore wind. Mostly hardly white baiters in action shuffling around and doing their white baiting thing.

Plenty leave their stands on home made trailers ready to wheel to the waters edge.

We headed back upstream, less wind, less white baiters and a growing population of resident searun trout.

The fisher-hunter looked a little smug after landing and releasing a searun. The smugness faded when I landed a larger fish 10 minutes later :-)

She too was released back to the Waimak. Both fish were a bit skinny. A few more feeds of white bait and silveries and they'll be sleek, well conditioned and unlikely to get a second chance.

What a splendid evening :-)
