Manoeuvres

Marian and I drove up the Coquet Valley this morning to Alwinton. From there we did the long pull up towards the border before turning across the moorland to return by Copper Snout. We made a detour at one point as cows with small calves were obstructing the gateway to the next field. We reached Shilmoor and the river in good time, but stopped when we practically fell over some soldiers hiding in the bracken. One was laying out orange tape and he said he was making a model. Marian told him he'd been watching too much Blue Peter. He'd left his big machine gun lying around but we pretended not to notice. I took some pictures of the pack of them scurrying about but decided that although the light was flat, and though I'd already posted this view in the spring, I really liked the autumn colours in this picture. (The army men were in the area just above the bald-headed man). The MOD owns an enormous area of Northumberland so I was surprised that they needed to play out with their area.

Thank you, we had an enjoyable meal at home last night - tonight we are eating out which can be a risky business in this area - hopefully it will be ok.
