Slush

The aftermath of another day of snow, that slowly turned to sleet and is now currently falling as full blown rain.

I had managed to take only one other picture today and that was of the pre-slush first thing this morning. When it was nice and fresh and white. And kinda bland.

It's not to say that this is any less bland, but the process of capturing it this evening was much more interesting. Propping the camera on the ground on a Gorillapod at the front of the house, trying to make the orange sodium tinted snow look like snow using a custom white balance and playing around with different apertures to change the DOF while all the time hunched down on my hunkers in the rain with a golf umbrella trying to protect the camera and firing off long exposures as neighbours wheeled their green bins out for the binmen's visit tomorrow and others drove past slowly... that was all good fun and kept me occupied and away from the telly for a bit. And sometimes that's what it's all about - not the end result, but the process getting there.

A huge thanks for all the comments on yesterday's blip and for helping it hit the Spotlight page. What started out as trying to find a nice spot to eat my lunch ended up with a shot I was unexpectedly pleased with when I transferred it off the camera. And for the eight people who deemed it worthy of 5 stars I am most humbly appreciative. To the single wonder-fud who in the last hour decided it was worthy of awarding it one star without comment thanks to you also, I do hope I will be able to return the favour one day; you are indeed the cold, slimy wet misery that is slush amongst the abundant fresh snowflakes that populate blipfoto. Cheers!
