Broad Street - Lime Tree Walk, Alloa

Second of these flip-blip ideas (yesterday's was the first). This one shows a South view of Lime Tree Walk Street on the left and the view North up Broad Street on the right.

This is one of Alloa's oldest streets and used to be the main thoroughfare from the town down to the harbour and off to the rest of the world. The large obelisk type structure on the right marks the entrance to the long gone Alloa Estate and is the only evidence left of the large house that used to occupy the parkland there. It now leads past a Family Centre and off into the 'Bottom End' of Alloa. There's always been trees lining the length of this avenue and there was a bit of a stink when the new school was built and all the existing trees were removed and replaced. Actually, there's still a bit of a stink as the school's only a few hundred yards from the local sewage works.

That's Alloa Academy on the left, one of three new secondary schools opened in the county over the last 4 years or so. This sits opposite the glassworks which, besides the local supermarkets, is probably the town's biggest employer. I'm assured by our guest blipper Riverman that the area the factory sprawls over used to where all the big villas occupied by Alloa's might merchants and mill owners had their residencies, but they all disappeared before my time.

The anchor here (that, now that I look at again, looks like a wee guy break-dancing) was what passed for public art round these parts before the sculptors moved in. It used to have pride of place in the High Street and was probably a lot more relevant to the locals, but less aesthetically pleasing to those with 'ideas' for the Wee County. It now sits down here mostly ignored by everybody.

It was really good to see some proper spring-like sunshine today, though for this kind of 180 degree flip shot it's actually much better if it's a bit cloudy and there's less shadows to throw you off the illusion.

Not complaining though, just saying...
