A moment's panic

This is part of the beaten copper design on one of the doors of my local parish church, spotted this evening while on a blip wander.

I had a bit of a panicky moment earlier when I spotted that my arm was badly swollen and discoloured above the wrist brace. The surgeon had warned me, both before and after the pins went in, of the risk of infection, and had given me some tell-tale signs to watch out for, telling me to waste no time returning to the hospital if anything developed. What I noticed this morning wasn't included in what he'd described, but I decided to ask my GP's advice just in case. Basically, he told me there was nothing to worry about, and that swelling and bruising were normal reactions and showed up where they did because they were unable to do so lower down because of the wrist brace. He told me to bandage my arm tightly from wrist brace right up to elbow joint and to massage the swollen area. He didn't actually have a suitable bandage (!), so I had to get the local chemist to supply and fit one. The doctor charged me 55 euro for the privilege.
