High and Dry, Greenpark Flats

Driving home tonight after what has been an extremely quick week in many ways, I decided to head by Greenpark Flats to see what I could photograph.

I was expecting waders in the shallow waters (the lake is currently open to the sea, allowing water to drain) but instead I was greeted at the Flats with acres of dry lake bed. I've noticed it dropping throughout the week, but I'm surprised it is that empty.

I'm pretty sure most of the spoonbills and other large waders may be heading down to the Kaituna River - it's relativey deep there and there's plentiful food stocks.
