Beat Play Live

We had a very varied, and successful, day today! In the morning, we ran a few errands – the post office, supermarket, etc – taking photos along the way, just in case we found a good blip - or didn't find a good one later. Then we headed down to MD Anderson again for L’s scan results – excellent news; everything stable, carry on with chemo for the time being! No new photos for blipping though. Fought some horrendous traffic coming home (unfortunately we’re never going to be alone heading out of town on a Friday afternoon!). Our journey took twice as long as normal.

We’re taking part in a charity tennis tournament, at our tennis club this weekend. The proceeds are benefiting the Texas Children’s Hospital and American Heart Association. We’ve been members of our club for almost 20 years now and have a wonderful social life around it, so it’s particularly rewarding to be able to give back as part of our involvement there. Neither of us has been able to play for a few months, however, so this could be interesting. Luckily, it’s a team event, so we won’t have to play every match. The rest of our team, Alien Invasion, is made up of Aussies.

This evening, there was a Players’ Party with a silent and live auction. Two of our friends bid on and won a lesson and autographed racquet/racket, t-shirt and cap from Liezel Huber. Liezel was the number one doubles tennis player in the world for 199 weeks, has won several Grand Slams, played in the Beijing and London Olympics and for the US Fed Cup team. When she's not playing/travelling, she lives nearby, and owns a tennis club here. She's a very dynamic, generous and philanthropic person and we’re proud to call her a friend!

This autographed Fed Cup t-shirt was being proudly modelled by C, our friend who won it. I think she’s decided to frame it rather than to play in it tomorrow!

"Beat Play Live" is the strapline for the tournament, and I felt it summed our day up nicely. Assuming we have the strength to lift a camera after playing, I have a feeling our blips tomorrow might be tennis-related.
