A piece from the Staffordshire Hoard

Today I went on a trip to Birmingham to see The Staffordshire Hoard where it's on display at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. It's the largest find of buried Anglo Saxon gold and silver dating from the 7th or 8th centuries.
It was a fantastic experience to see so many items and amazing to think that they lay in a farmer's field for so many years before being discovered.

I was amazed at the minute exquisite detail, I can't imagine how they were made with the type of tools that they must have had in those days, details so small that magnifying glasses were provided to see them.
This is a gold and garnet strip which was just stunning. Luckily they allow photography.

Later we went to the new library which is just wonderful inside with great views over the city.
