Above And Beyond...

Penallta Park

It was the wife's day off, and I keep my calendar clear, but it was raining and we wondered what to do. We usually like to take my sons dogs for a walk but the rain didn't make it an easy decision, but we were willing to get soaked with a lack of alternatives.

We have never been there before, but have seen the signs on driving past, and so called in to Penallta Park. It's part of the site of the former colliery and now returned to nature. It's ideal for a ramble and letting the dogs run free.

The blip photo shows a dramatic cloud formation over the main artwork on the site.

In 1996, a vision for Penallta was put forward by Caerphilly County Borough Council, in partnership with Groundwork Wales and various local community, statutory and voluntary agencies. Stage1 of the project converted 180 hectares of derelict land transformed into a community park. Stage2 created more access, through the installation of a bridle path and cycle tracks, and a stone footpath

We got back to the car just as the rain started to pour down. Good timing. The dogs really enjoyed it, and I can see us all returning.
