A Flash from the Past - Mary and I in Newport, RI

Dear Diary,

This is one of the photographs M. and I shared giggles over this weekend. It was taken over 20 years ago at the Rose Island Light house in Newport, Rhode Island. We spent the weekend in the lightkeeper's house since it was available to guests. We had a wonderful time, taking the kayak out to gather fresh mussels and then cooking them on the old gas stove. We spread a blanket on the grass and watched the ships sail into Newport harbor as we sipped our tea.

It shows the power of a single photograph to unleash a flood of memories. Each one is a kind of vault that stores these precious past experiences and we don't need a combination to open it. It makes this photojournal so very, very important to me.

A photograph is like a recipe, a memory the finished dish.
