Fog and dust

At least I’ve got a camera cleaner for my birthday, I thought, as I stared at the dust spots on my photo.

It was only when I scrolled and found the sun in a different place and the dust spots had followed that I thought they might be something else.

Lucc has a lovely photo of the same bit of science.

I have discovered that sunspots are a little chilly at only 2,700–4,200°C, so appear black compared to the surrounding heat. If these sunspots were isolated, apparently, they would appear brighter than the moon. They range from 16 to 160,000km and the larger ones you can see with the naked eye.

Given I thought I had dust spots on my camera, I have no idea if this was visible to the naked eye or if they're just diddy ones.
