Gone to seed

Every year we collect seed from the garden, dry it off in paper envelopes and peg the envelopes up on a rack in the tool-shed which we can raise or lower on pulleys. On wet days the guys sort it out, packet it up, put it in the fridge and we sell it the following season in our wee shop. What we sell depends on what we can find, or more to the point, what we remember to collect. The more common seeds do best - primula, meconopsis and a few others and the less obvious sometimes don't sell well at all. One year we had watercress seed and sold none!

This winter I'm hoping to make a book of photographs that visitors can look though with pictures of whatever we're selling that season, to encourage them to be a little more daring! This long growing season has allowed several plants to set seed when we wouldn't normally expect to find any - I'm still waiting for a few to ripen now but it depends on what the weather does.
