Red Tailed Hawk

There is a delightful book called Red Tails in Love by Marie Winn, which made a certain red tailed hawk called "Pale Male" famous. The book is the true story of a delightfully eccentric group of birdwatchers in Central Park in New York City who follow his adventures, including making a nest on a building on Fifth Avenue.

When we saw this fellow surveying the scene from an oak tree at Spring Lake, I was surprised by his size and his ability to project ferocity even from bis lofty perch.

We have had enough rain to make puddles, the first I have seen in awhile, but hardly the 5-7" that was predicted. The sun is making an appearance as I write.
