Hung Parliament

Election coverage continued throughout the night on the BBC. They must have been very tired when they went off air at about 3pm this afternoon!

The final results were:

Con: 306 seats , 36% of the vote.

Lab: 258 seats, 29% of the vote.

Lib: 57 seats, 23% of the vote.

So it is a hung parliament as expected and Gordon Brown is still Prime Minister unless the David Cameron can do a deal with Nick Clegg to form some sort of coalition. Nick Clegg, who actually did worse than 2005 despite a great performance in the debates and the polls, now becomes kingmaker. He has the opportunity to give the Lib Dems what they have wanted for 90 years - electoral reform. But can they really form a government with th Tories, with whom they disagree on many things?
