Swimming Against The Tide

Ends

Do all good things come to an end?

What IS a good thing anyway?

All bags of giant chocolate buttons end - no matter how long I try to spin them out the end is reached too quickly.

All concerts end eventually - even if the performers are happy to carry on all night, the venue throws everyone out at curfew time.

All wonderful friendships end eventually - either through argument, drifting off, or, more seriously, death.

All lives end too - I recall that it would have been my stepfather's birthday today had he not died seven years ago.

And eventually the Earth will end, we are told, when the Sun runs out of juice and the Solar System as we know it ceases to exist!

Today, however, I shall not worry about those things (except maybe the chocolate buttons). I shall savour the last of the wonderful asparagus we've been enjoying since 1st May (see blip for that date) as the season is now at an end. Nearly 2 months of speary loveliness is now giving way to summer!

This morning we took our towels, got into our damp car (drying off quite well I'm pleased to report) and went on our pilgrimage to the asparagus farm for the last time this year. We shall return in May 2011!
