Fireworks on the Fourth

The only thing more patriotic than an American Flag (yesterday's post) is fireworks on the the Fourth of July. We found ourselves in Long Beach, CA after traveling 1,200 miles in two and a half days. Our hotel was just up the street from Rainbow Harbor, over which the fireworks display was to take place. People had been arriving all day, setting up camp and awaiting the show. We, on the other hand, took the elevator down from the eleventh floor, went to a local Greek restaurant for dinner, and then walked with the masses to the lighthouse overlooking the bay.

The fireworks started right on time and were incredible. Lots of great effects in the air and some really cool effects close to the ground kept the massive crowd ohhing and ahhing at regular intervals. Once the twenty minute performance was over, we walked back to our hotel, and watched everyone else try to drive home from the comfort of our room.
