Marjorie's ramblings

My mother's hands

These hands are nearly 89 years old. In the image they are at rest, supporting a sleeping cat in her lap. Most of the time they remain very active hands. My mother still drives a car, she paints and does fine embroidery, transplants seedlings, does invisible mending, feeds the birds, etc, etc. This is all despite the muscle wasting in her hands. Those of you who are medically minded will see the "guttering" where the small muscles of the hand have wasted away.

I hope that my hands are able to be as active when (and if) I reach the same age.
