Was It Really So Long Ago

Well I'll be Domed!

we ventured out to the National Botanical Gardens in Carmarthenshire this afternoon for a stroll in the sunshine. I managed to leave the SD card in the computer this morning, so was limited to the abilities of the iPhone camera and the small amount of internal memory in the main camera. Arrghh!

We spotted the Welsh TV company S4C recording (something in Welsh). Their website says:

'Independent television companies are responsible for producing the majority of S4C?s programmes. The BBC provides over 10 hours a week of programming. ITV Wales also makes programmes for us.

A variety of programmes are broadcast on S4C, including live national events, sport, music, news, drama, entertainment, children, culture, rural and lifestyle.'

In the gift shop, surrounded by offerings made from sheep poo and other garden-related paraphernalia, I overheard a conversation about the resurgence of the Welsh language and how in past times, even local people were ridiculed for speaking it.

I wish the Welsh all the best with rebuilding their language.

Pictured above is the inside of the Great Glasshouse. This spectacular dome is the largest single span glasshouse in the world, and was designed by Norman Foster and Partners. Poised on the Welsh landscape like a giant raindrop, it protects and conserves some of the most endangered plants on the planet.
