Buckland Abbey

Today with a great friend of mine, I went to the National Trust property of Buckland Abbey, 6 miles south of Tavistock in Devon.

Built in the 13th Century it was the home to the Cistercian monks. By 1581 it was the home of Sir Francis Drake who lived in the house for 15 years. It's been opened to the public since 1951 & survived a serious fire in the 1930s - but then so many houses did suffer fires!

It is a stunning tranquil place, it almost feels like the monks never left & you could take photographs inside which is very rare with National Trust properties! The weather was fantastic & if anyone is ever close by it's well worth a visit!
